The National Museum of the Villa of Tiberius worth a visit
Sperlonga Archeological Museum annexed to the Villa was built in the early 60th’s to preserve the precious sculptural pieces found during the excavation since 1957.
The finest pieces of the collection are the famous Ulisse head and the spectacular hellenistic marble groups representing some Odyssey passages, SCYLLA group (Scilla assault on the hero’s ship), POLIFEMO group (Polifemo blinding), Palladio and Ganymede.The works were realized by famous Rhodes artists who are also the Lacoonte sculptors.
The Villa was built by Emperor Tiberius (1st century AD) to relax himself together with his court and enjoy some rest far from Rome.
